Dry goods like oatmeal or ramen noodles hold up better on a shelf since they’re less vulnerable to heat damage. In addition to cooling solutions, it’s important to plan for inventory rotation during the hottest months. If cooling isn’t feasible, consider donating existing supplies to partner organizations that can store them properly or distribute them quickly to those in need. This ensures the food doesn’t go to waste and still serves its purpose. Furthermore, expanding pantry partnerships to include essential non-food items such as makeup and feminine care products can be beneficial. These products require less temperature-sensitive storage and support vulnerable populations, such as women’s shelters. Overall, addressing the challenges of Arizona’s climate requires creativity and commitment. By using coolers, rotating inventory, and broadening the scope of donations, food pantries can continue serving communities effectively despite the heat.
