“Write it down. Even if it’s messy.”

I have always been a person who can express my thoughts in writing better than in person. So I can write to express my emotions and for me it helps to release the emotions and move on. So when in doubt write it out! Even if you tear it up after.

Do you do this? If not would you give it a try?

... Read moreAs someone who has embraced writing as a tool to process emotions, I can personally attest to its transformative effect. Writing doesn't have to be neat or structured; the act of putting pen to paper—or fingers to keyboard—allows you to connect with your feelings without judgment. Often, we bottle up emotions because expressing them verbally feels overwhelming or inadequate. I found that jotting down whatever comes to mind, no matter how incoherent it seems, helps untangle complex emotions. One thing I've learned is not to worry about grammar or spelling during these sessions. The phrase "Write it down. Even if it’s messy." perfectly captures the essence of this practice. Sometimes, after writing, I tear up the notes to physically let go of the negativity they've held. It’s a surprisingly cathartic experience. If you’ve never tried expressive writing, start small. Set a timer for five minutes and write without stopping. Don't censor yourself or worry about appearances. You might discover insights about yourself or simply feel relieved. There’s a growing movement around writing therapy because it’s accessible and effective. Using hashtags like #writingtherapy and #vent can connect you with supportive communities who share their stories and tips. These connections can motivate you to keep writing and remind you that you’re not alone in your struggles. Ultimately, writing is a personal journey. Whether it’s a journal, a creative outlet, or just simple notes to vent, the important part is to allow yourself the freedom to write even if it’s messy. It’s a step toward better emotional health and self-awareness.

What I actually write in my journal
Most of what I write would make zero sense to anyone else. Half sentences. Random memories. A line that just says, “this feels heavy” over and over again. It’s not polished. It’s not linear. It’s not even always coherent. And that’s kind of the point. Your journal isn’t where you perf
