Things to do in NYC during the Holidays

Bryant Park Winter Village
2024/12/15 Edited to

... Read moreHey everyone! If you're planning a trip to NYC, especially around the colder months, the Bryant Park Winter Village is an absolute must-do experience. I recently spent an afternoon there, and let me tell you, it completely transformed my holiday spirits! Beyond just grabbing a hot chocolate (which is totally essential, by the way!), the real magic happens when you dive into the endless rows of charming holiday shops. These aren't just your run-of-the-mill stores; I found so many unique, handcrafted gifts for everyone on my list. From artisanal jewelry and quirky art prints to cozy knitwear and delightful home decor, it's like a treasure hunt. I particularly loved discovering local artists and small businesses showcasing their incredible talent. You can literally spend hours browsing, finding everything from international treats to bespoke ornaments. It really captures that festive marketplace vibe that's so characteristic of Must-Do Holiday Activities in NYC. But the Bryant Park Winter Village is so much more than just shopping. The main attraction for many, myself included, is the incredible free admission ice skating rink! You can bring your own skates or rent them there, and gliding around with the stunning city skyline and glittering Christmas tree as your backdrop is truly unforgettable. Even if you're not a skater, watching others twirl around adds to the joyous atmosphere. And let's talk about the food! While the article mentioned hot chocolate, there's a whole world of delicious treats waiting. I stumbled upon a stall, maybe even the "S'MORE N'MOP RES" mentioned in some guides, that had the most incredible gourmet s'mores – perfectly toasted marshmallow, melty chocolate, and crispy graham crackers, a true winter delight! Besides that, you'll find everything from savory crepes, piping hot pretzels, and spicy ramen to sweet churros and warm apple cider. It’s the perfect place to refuel after all that shopping and skating. Now, a quick note for those planning a visit around "February 2025" or similar dates. While the specific holiday shops generally pack up shortly after New Year's, transforming the park back to its regular layout, the Bryant Park Winter Village itself often extends well into February, especially the iconic ice skating rink. So, even if you miss the bustling holiday market stalls, you can still enjoy a magical winter wonderland experience with ice skating and some of the food and drink vendors still open. For February visitors, I'd also recommend checking out the Lodge by Urbanspace for a cozy indoor spot, or simply enjoying the crisp winter air and the beautiful architecture surrounding the park. It’s still a fantastic spot for a winter stroll, even if the busiest holiday shopping season has passed. Overall, whether you're looking for unique gifts, a fun day on the ice, or just want to soak in the festive cheer, Bryant Park Winter Village truly delivers. It's definitely earned its spot on my "must-do" list for NYC during the holidays, and a great place to experience the city's unique winter charm!
