Apple Pencil 2nd Gen Review - 3 years later!
As a long-time iPad user, I’ve had my Apple Pencil since day one. I’ve tried a few dupes along the way, but I’ve always stuck with the Apple Pencil because, the features really are that good. There are some cons, but most of them are cons that come with styluses in general. If your iPad is compatible, I’d definitely recommend the 2nd gen Apple Pencil.
One of the standout features of the Apple Pencil 2nd Gen is its magnetic attachment, which not only keeps it safe and easy to carry but also charges the pencil wirelessly. This convenience means I rarely have to plug it in or worry about it running out of battery unexpectedly. The double-tap feature is another game-changer. It allows quick tool switching without interrupting workflow, making tasks like sketching or editing notes much more efficient. Over time, I have found this feature to be incredibly useful, especially in creative apps. While the pencil's tip does wear down with heavy use—especially for artists who draw extensively—replacing the tips is straightforward and affordable, helping maintain its precision and performance. The Apple Pencil also unlocks exclusive iPad functionality such as Scribble, which converts handwriting to text, hover previews on M2 iPads, and precise selections in productivity apps. These features significantly enhance productivity and creativity, making the Pencil not just an accessory but a vital extension of the iPad. For those considering alternatives, I tried several cheaper styluses, but none matched the responsiveness and feature set of the Apple Pencil 2nd Gen. It truly feels like using a real pen, with accurate pressure sensitivity and tilt support that works seamlessly. In summary, whether you're a student, artist, or professional, the Apple Pencil 2nd Gen remains a robust and valuable investment for compatible iPads, delivering precision, convenience, and powerful features that continue to stand the test of time.
