During my trip in Beijing, visiting the Summer Palace truly stood out as a highlight of the day. Entering through the East gate allowed me to experience the peaceful Hall of Benevolence & Longevity and enjoy a scenic walk along the lake. Climbing Longevity Hill provided panoramic views that are unforgettable. I highly recommend purchasing an audio guide on-site to enrich your visit with historical insights. For food lovers, the hotpot experience at Yang Fang Shuan Rou was intriguing though different than expected—the soup base was surprisingly just water, but their lamb meat was of excellent quality. While the restaurant was quiet and service could improve, it still offered a genuine taste of local lamb dishes. South Luogu Lane was another must-visit area with its eclectic mix of handmade crafts and street snacks. I savored an array of local treats like stinky tofu, chamomile-infused Osmanthus cake, and spicy Chongqing noodle soup, alongside refreshing hand-punched lemon tea. The atmosphere there is lively and truly immersive. One of my favorite hidden finds was the viewing platform at GuLouYuan. From there, the illuminated Drum Tower and Bell Tower offer peaceful yet vibrant views at night, a perfect spot for reflection after a day of exploring. Don't miss the Bird's Nest Culture Centre, built for the 2008 Summer Olympics, where you can go inside and see panoramic views from the top. Although I didn’t climb it myself, it’s reputed to be an impressive experience. Lastly, sampling desserts from Cha Bing Zhai was delightful—particularly their jasmine sponge cake and cream cheese pastry. Though not overly indulgent, they provide a nice balance of traditional and modern flavors. Overall, these experiences paint a vivid picture of Beijing's rich cultural tapestry and diverse culinary scene, making Day 4 one of the most memorable stops on my journey.
