Building on Christ…
Building on Christ means more than just belief; it requires a continuous commitment to live according to His teachings. From my experience, the cornerstone Jesus provides is both a firm foundation and a guiding light through life’s challenges. The Bible emphasizes that no other foundation can stand firm except the one laid by Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 3:11), and this truth has resonated deeply in my personal journey. Obedience to Christ’s word transforms faith from mere profession into action. It’s not about legalistic rule-following but about willingly surrendering our hearts to God's will. When I focus on doing God's will—not to earn favor but as a grateful response to His grace—I notice a profound change in my character. This aligns perfectly with the scripture stating, “he who obeys is righteous” (from the OCR’s message). One vital aspect is the role of the Holy Spirit, who leads and guides believers towards holiness. The difference between those truly led by the Spirit and those only intermittently influenced lies in the consistency and depth of daily surrender. Romans 8:14 reminds us that being led by the Spirit identifies us as children of God. This spiritual guidance helps us grow into a holy temple, a living reflection of Christ’s image. Moreover, understanding that we are fellow-citizens with the saints and members of God’s household strengthens our sense of belonging and responsibility. As Ephesians 2:20 declares, our foundation is built upon the apostles, prophets, and especially Jesus Christ himself, the chief cornerstone. In practical terms, building on Christ involves daily studying His character and allowing the light of the world to illuminate our path. I’ve found that as I study Christ’s life, love, and law, my actions begin to mirror His humility and compassion more closely. This spiritual growth is measurable not by perfection but by the continuous desire to respond obediently to God’s calling. Thus, building on Christ secures not only our salvation but nurtures a character that endures trials and matures through faith active in love and obedience. It is a lifelong privilege to be part of this sacred building, reflecting His image more fully each day.
