For those who struggle with a.....

a self-critical, negative, overthinking inner dialogue…

so many of us were taught to accept it as just “how we are.” Like the constant mental noise, the harsh self-talk, the overanalyzing was simply our fate. But it’s not. And it doesn’t have to be this way.

To my collective who deals with this—

have you ever finally sat down for a quiet moment and your mind does the complete opposite? The thoughts start racing, overlapping, replaying everything—until your nervous system feels overstimulated instead of rested. All you want is stillness, but your inner world won’t turn the volume down. 🥲

Hey love. I see you.

I’ve been there too.

For a long time, my inner dialogue was incredibly harsh and self-critical. I grew up trying to live up to a version of myself that existed only in other people’s expectations—constant criticism, emotional immaturity, and never feeling “good enough.” That voice didn’t come from nowhere.

One thing that’s helped me (and continues to help—it’s a practice, not perfection) is becoming aware of my thoughts without shaming myself for having them. When I catch a cruel or dismissive thought, I gently interrupt it and say: That’s not how we speak to ourselves anymore.

Then I slow down and ask:

What version of me first believed this?

How old was she when she learned this was true?

And from there, I change my tone. I speak to that part of me with validation, compassion, and grace—because she deserved that then, and she deserves it now.

You don’t have to rush your healing.

You don’t have to respond perfectly.

You don’t have to silence your mind overnight.

Awareness is the first step. Kindness is the medicine.

And you are allowed to relearn how you speak to yourself. ❤️‍🩹

I’m here. Always.

... Read moreDealing with an overcritical and negative inner dialogue can feel like a never-ending battle. I've experienced firsthand how relentless self-doubt and the mental noise of phrases like "Not good enough," "Why can't you get it right?" or "You always mess up" can trap you in a cycle of anxiety and self-judgment. What helped me most was realizing that these voices often stem from old beliefs we absorbed during childhood—beliefs about ourselves that don’t reflect our true worth. One effective practice I’ve found is mindfulness combined with self-compassion. The moment I notice a negative thought, I pause and gently question it: "Is this really true?" or "Where did this belief come from?" By addressing the root of the thought—often a younger, vulnerable part of myself—I can respond with kindness rather than criticism. It’s important to understand that healing isn’t about silencing your mind instantly but about gradual change. I started journaling my thoughts, which created a safe space to examine them without judgement. Over time, I replaced self-criticism with affirmations and supportive language, such as "I am doing my best" or "It's okay to make mistakes—I'm learning." Another helpful approach is setting aside a specific "worry time" each day—allowing myself 10-15 minutes to acknowledge worries and then consciously redirecting my focus. This technique helped reduce the feeling of racing thoughts during quiet moments. For anyone who struggles with overthinking and harsh self-talk, remember that kindness is your greatest ally. Be patient with yourself because healing is a journey, not a destination. Every small step toward gentle self-awareness builds resilience, allowing you to create a peaceful and encouraging inner environment. You’re deserving of compassion—always.
