Can I wash a silver necklace to remove the black？

I've had this silver necklace for just 8 months and turned so dark. Its not everyday wear, maybe 3 times a week and ad SOON as i get home i put it back in its dark box, its never exposed to light unless im wearing it. I have a sterling silver ring that I've had twice as long that looks brand new and hasn't darkened.

The necklace do have a matte look so I'm not sure if there is some kind of coating that may be causing this?
