3 Menstrual Phase Hacks

When I started to re-regulate my cycle and balance my hormones, I made some changes to my menstrual phase that resulted in less PMS, less bloat, less blemishes, and an all around smoother ride throughout the month.

Some of those changes were:

1. Swapping coffee for cacao. I refuse to believe cacao wasn't created for a woman on her period LOL. It's mineral-rich in magnesium (helps with mood and cramps), boosts serotonin and other happy chemicals, and is warming for the womb. There is very little caffeine, so it shouldn't bother cortisol (which is more sensitive in this phase).

2. Making sure all meals have protein, fat, and greens. Blood sugar balance is the name of the game in the menstrual phase, as our body is more sensitive during this time. To limit potential bloating, I'll use fresh herbs instead of lettuces, which also help facilitate smooth digestion.

3. Prioritizing self care!!!! Setting aside time to be "unproductive" is the MOST PRODUCTIVE thing we can be doing during our bleed. Any form of pampering (everything showers, massages, face masks, baths with epsom salts) is so well received and needed as our body has just worked so hard.

Here are some additional insights: 1. **Cacao Benefits**: Rich in magnesium and antioxidants, cacao helps alleviate cramps and lifts your mood. It's a wonderful alternative to coffee that supports hormonal balance without overstimulating your system. 2. **Balanced Meals**: Ensure your meals contain adequate protein, healthy fats, and colorful veggies. The inclusion of fresh herbs not only enhances flavor but also aids digestion, helping to minimize bloating. 3. **Embrace Self-Care**: During your menstrual phase, your body deserves extra affection. Integrate relaxing practices like meditations, face masks, and warm baths into your routine. These simple acts can greatly enhance your comfort and mood, making your cycle feel more manageable. By implementing these strategies, you can empower yourself and embrace a healthier menstrual cycle.
