Cast iron care

If you're all about smart investments that save you money AND are kind to the planet, then a cast iron pan is your new kitchen bestie! It's truly a "buy once, use forever" kind of purchase. Seriously, ditch those toxic Teflon pans – this is the upgrade you've been waiting for. They even work perfectly on induction stovetops like mine!

... Read moreWhen I first got my cast iron pan, I didn’t realize how important the initial care would be in creating that perfect nonstick surface. One essential step is seasoning it properly — I use grapeseed oil, applying a thin layer all over the pan, including the back, then bake it at 400°F for 30 minutes. Repeating this process a few times really builds up a great seasoning layer. I also avoid using soap when cleaning because it can strip away the seasoning layer I've built. Instead, I wash my pan with hot water and quickly dry it with a towel to prevent rust. After drying, I like to apply a very thin layer of oil while the pan is still a bit warm, which helps maintain and enhance the nonstick surface. Another tip for long-term care is to always heat your pan gradually; this prevents warping and keeps it performing great even on induction stovetops. Over time, the more you use and care for your cast iron skillet, the better the nonstick surface becomes, making it ideal for all kinds of cooking. Investing in a cast iron pan isn’t just a budget-friendly choice but an eco-friendly one, too. Unlike disposable pans or those with toxic coatings, your well-cared-for cast iron lasts a lifetime, reducing waste and chemical use in the kitchen.

Dry it over your heat source ( stove) and then once it is free of water, add oil and rub in with paper towel. The oil soaks into the hot pan better.

Cast Iron Skillet Cleaning
Cast Iron Skillet cleaning instructions idc what anyone says, I’m never not gonna use a tiny bit of soap to clean my pans. I don’t scrub them aggressively (unless needed) but when your pan is seasoned well, clean up should be a breeze. The most important thing is making sure it’s fully dry!
