What can kids safely do?

2-8 years old

•Ideal workouts are light yoga and cardio

•Be careful not to push too hard

•Children under 8 should NOT do any sort of strength training

•Cardio includes swimming, running, walks, bikes, etc..

8-12 years old

•Light (easy for them) weights and 10 to 12 reps can be safe if form is good

•No heavy lifting

•This is when you can start pushing a little with cardio.

•These are the ages most sports start within

Why isn't weight lifting safe for kids?

•Kids under 8 don't have fully formed bones yet, so their bones aren't strong enough for weight lifting.

•Between 8 and 12, lifting light weights can actually have positive results. Lifting heavy (Max strength), however, can cause injury.

•By 13, it is considered completely safe to weightlift (with proper supervision and form)
