Honestly, there's nothing worse than finally feeling better after a nasty bout of the flu, only to worry if those lingering germs are going to make you or someone else sick again. That's exactly why I've developed my go-to post-sickness disinfecting routine! It's not just about tidying; it's a full-on clean up mission to banish those flu cooties for good. I’ve learned a few tricks that make a huge difference, and I'm excited to share them with you. First things first, I always gather my supplies. My disinfecting arsenal usually includes an EPA-registered disinfectant spray or wipes (check the label to ensure it kills flu viruses!), a good all-purpose cleaner, microfiber cloths, and, crucially, a pair of rubber gloves. Protecting my hands is key during this deep clean. Once I’m suited up, I open windows to get some fresh air circulating. Ventilation is so important when you're spraying disinfectants and trying to air out any lingering sick smells. My absolute priority for a post-sickness clean up is targeting high-touch surfaces. All bedding – sheets, pillowcases, duvet covers – goes into the washing machine on the hottest setting possible, along with any towels or clothes worn while sick. I use my regular detergent, but sometimes add a laundry sanitizer for an extra layer of protection. After they're washed, I dry them completely on a high heat setting. I also remember to wipe down the inside of the washing machine and dryer, especially the doors and detergent dispenser, just in case. Don't overlook personal items! My glasses, sunglasses, and even my keys get a quick wipe with an alcohol swab or disinfectant wipe. And if I used any shared items like blankets in the living room, they get laundered too.
