Helpful Student Apps

2024/6/5 Edited to

... Read moreBeyond just listing fantastic apps, let's dive deeper into how you can truly maximize their potential, especially when tackling complex learning or needing advanced note-taking strategies. I've found that integrating specific techniques can make all the difference, particularly with platforms like Udemy or when you're aiming for a deeper, more connected understanding of your subjects. Mastering Note-Taking While Learning on Udemy Udemy is an incredible resource for learning new skills, but taking effective notes during video lectures can sometimes feel tricky. My personal strategy for Udemy courses often involves using one of my go-to note-taking apps simultaneously. While watching a lesson, I'll have Notion or CollaNote open on my iPad. For Notion, I create a dedicated database for each course, with pages for each lecture. I jot down key concepts, definitions, and questions, often adding timestamps so I can easily refer back to specific moments in the video. CollaNote is fantastic for visual learners like me; I can import screenshots from the Udemy lecture and annotate them directly, drawing diagrams or highlighting important sections with my stylus. This active engagement helps me process information much better than just passively watching. Don't forget to summarize lectures in your own words right after watching – it's a powerful way to solidify understanding. Exploring Knowledge Graphs for Deeper Understanding Have you ever felt like your notes are just a collection of isolated facts? That's where the concept of 'knowledge graphs' or 'linked notes' comes in, and why some students seek out tools like RemNote or Knowt. These advanced note-taking systems are designed to help you connect ideas across different topics, creating a web of knowledge rather than linear documents. While apps like RemNote are celebrated for their built-in bidirectional linking and integrated flashcards for spaced repetition, you can actually apply similar principles with other powerful tools already in your toolkit. For instance, in Notion, I create linked pages for related concepts. If I'm studying a topic in biology and it relates to something from chemistry, I'll link those pages together. This helps me visualize the connections between subjects and reinforces a holistic understanding, much like a personal knowledge graph. Joplin, with its markdown linking capabilities, also allows for creating a web of interconnected notes. The goal is to move beyond rote memorization and truly see how different pieces of information fit into the bigger picture. Embracing these linking strategies, whether with a dedicated knowledge graph app or by creatively using Notion or Joplin, can significantly enhance your retention and comprehension, helping you truly stay one step ahead in your studies.
