What To Do When You’re Not Studying

It’s important to take breaks in between your studying. In between these study sessions, remember that it’s not a good idea to pick up your phone and start scrolling through your socials. This can throw you in a loop of scrolling for hours.

Here are some other things you can do:

1. Go for a walk

2. Meditate

3. Listen to music

4. Do your favorite hobby

What do you do in between your study sessions?

... Read moreWe all know that feeling: you're sitting at your desk, phone in hand, doing absolutely anything but studying. It's so tempting to get lost in social media, but trust me, that rarely leaves you feeling refreshed. Instead of falling into that endless scrolling loop, I've found that incorporating smart, productive breaks can actually boost my focus and prevent burnout. It's all about giving your brain a genuine reset! Here are some of my go-to activities that help me recharge and come back to my studies stronger. Get Moving: Go for a Walk or Stretch It Out My favorite way to clear my head and escape that 'anything but studying' feeling is a quick walk. It's amazing what fresh air and a change of scenery can do! Whether it's a stroll around the block or finding a green space like a park (I've even seen serene farm scenes with horses and a barn that instantly calm me!), getting away from my desk helps so much. It’s not just about moving; it’s about changing your environment and giving your eyes a break from screens. If going outside isn't an option, even a quick 5-minute stretch or some simple yoga poses can release tension and get the blood flowing. It’s super refreshing! Find Your Inner Calm: Meditate or Practice Mindfulness When I need a deeper reset, meditation is my secret weapon. Even just 5-10 minutes of guided meditation or focusing on my breath can make a huge difference. I try to find a quiet spot, maybe even outdoors on a tree stump if the weather's nice, to truly 'FIND YOUR PEACE'. There are tons of free apps that can help you get started, guiding you through simple breathing exercises that clear your mind and bring you back to the present moment. This helps me stop stressing about everything I'm not studying. Engage Your Senses: Listen to Music or Create Playlists Music is another instant mood booster and a fantastic alternative to mindless scrolling. Instead of passively consuming content, I love putting on a carefully curated playlist. Sometimes it's instrumental focus music to help me concentrate, other times it's upbeat pop to re-energize me during a break. I've even started keeping a spiral-bound notebook to jot down musical notes or lyrics that inspire me. It's a great way to engage a different part of your brain without the mental drain of screens. Unleash Your Creativity: Do Your Favorite Hobby This is where I really get to express myself and shake off the study blues! Instead of passively consuming content, I dedicate a short burst of time to something I genuinely enjoy. Maybe it's sketching in a notebook, practicing a new language, or even a quick self-care routine. I once saw someone take a mirror selfie, looking so relaxed with their headphones on, and thought, 'That's exactly the vibe!' It’s about doing something active and fulfilling, not just passing time. Think about hobbies that don't involve a screen, like knitting, painting, or even playing a musical instrument. Quick Wins: Organize & Prepare Sometimes, the best break is a quick tidy-up. Straightening my desk, organizing my notes (especially those handwritten ones!), or even just sharpening my pencils can create a more conducive study environment for when I return. I also love to use a few minutes to briefly outline my next study block or task list. This can reduce anxiety about what's next and make returning to work feel less daunting. Grabbing a healthy snack or prepping a quick meal can also be a wonderful, productive use of a break. Remember, the goal of a break isn't to procrastinate, but to genuinely recharge. By choosing activities that refresh your mind and body, you'll find yourself more focused and productive when you return to your studies. What do you do when you're not studying?
