The struggle! 😩
I had a torn rotator cuff on my right shoulder and had surgery on it yesterday. I'm right-handed, so it has been a struggle to do things! Luckily, I haven't been experiencing pain, but that's only because they have me a nerve block injection prior to surgery. That had my entire arm numb until a few hours ago today. I just hope my recovery is quick because it's only day 2, and I hate feeling like I can't do anything 🫠

Undergoing rotator cuff surgery can be a challenging experience, especially for right-handed individuals who must adapt to using their non-dominant hand. Many patients find themselves dealing with frustration and limitation as they navigate their daily routines during recovery. It's important to understand the surgical procedure's details, including the types of rotator cuff tears—complete or partial—and the techniques used during surgery, such as arthroscopic versus open repair. Post-surgery, effective pain management is crucial. Nerve blocks, like the one mentioned, can provide significant relief in the immediate aftermath, but understanding pain evolution is key as recovery progresses. Physical therapy often follows surgery, focusing on restoring mobility and strengthening the shoulder, usually beginning with gentle movements to avoid complications and promote healing. Additionally, embracing the emotional aspects of recovery—admitting struggles and frustrations—is essential. Engaging with supportive communities, online forums, or social media can provide helpful advice and reassurance from those who have undergone similar surgeries. Exploring concepts of vulnerability and strength can help to reshape experiences into something more positive. For anyone facing rotator cuff surgery or recovery, remember that resilience and patience are vital as you adjust to new limitations and work towards reclaiming full use of your shoulder.
