For anyone new to Haitian griyo or wanting to try a twist on classic pizza, this recipe truly delivers both authenticity and bold flavors. When preparing the griyo pork, marinating it overnight really helps the meat absorb the vibrant taste of the epis blend and spices, making it melt-in-your-mouth tender once fried to golden perfection. I found that rolling the dough paper-thin and parbaking it avoids sogginess once the toppings are added. This thin, flaky crust contrasts wonderfully with the crispy pork chunks and melted mozzarella blend. To elevate the sauce, I often add a little extra griyo jus—it infuses the marinara with smoky pork undertones that perfectly complement the scotch bonnet heat. For those who prefer milder spice, you can omit the scotch bonnet slices or replace them with just a pinch of chili flakes. A favorite finishing touch is garnishing the pizza with fresh parsley or cilantro alongside pikliz, the Haitian spicy pickled vegetable relish. It adds a refreshing crunch and bursts of acidity that balance the richness of the pork and cheese. Overall, making Haitian Griyo Pizza at home is a fun culinary adventure that combines traditional Haitian flavors with a beloved comfort food. Whether serving it for a family dinner or impressing guests, this recipe brings a taste of Haiti’s vibrant cuisine right to your table.
