After that super easy train ride from Copenhagen (seriously, no passport check was such a pleasant surprise!), I finally got to explore Malmö beyond just the amazing view I caught, despite the freezing wind! It’s the perfect spot to grab a traditional Swedish 'fika' (coffee break with a pastry, usually a cinnamon bun!) and just soak in the atmosphere. Even with a bit of a chill in the air, finding a sheltered spot to people-watch was delightful and really made me feel like I was experiencing authentic Swedish culture. For a dose of history and culture, Malmöhus Castle is a must-see. It’s the oldest preserved Renaissance castle in Scandinavia and houses several museums, including the Malmö Art Museum and the Natural History Museum. I loved wandering through its halls; it really gives you a sense of Sweden’s rich past. There’s so much to explore inside, you could easily spend a few hours here, especially if you’re trying to escape the brisk Malmö wind! Then, for something completely modern, you absolutely have to see the Turning Torso. This architectural marvel by Santiago Calatrava is incredible to behold, twisting upwards into the sky. It’s located in Västra Hamnen, a super cool and modern waterfront district. This area is fantastic for a coastal walk, offering stunning views across the Öresund. This is probably where I got that amazing view I mentioned before – even if the wind was trying to blow me away, it was totally worth it for the scenery and to say I saw Malmö Sweden's iconic skyscraper! And for foodies, Malmö Saluhall is a dream! It’s an indoor food market where you can find everything from local delicacies to international street food. I tried some fantastic local cheeses and fresh bread – it’s a vibrant place to grab lunch or just browse. It’s also a great spot to warm up on a cold day and fuel up for more exploring. A few practical tips for your Malmö travel: While Sweden uses Swedish Krona, many places are cashless, so make sure your cards are ready. English is widely spoken, so communication isn't usually an issue. And if you're visiting in the colder months like I did, layer up! That Malmö wind can be quite biting, but honestly, it just adds to the adventurous spirit of exploring this beautiful city. Public transport is excellent, but much of the city center is wonderfully walkable. All in all, Malmö truly offers a fantastic blend of historic charm, modern architecture, and delicious food, making it an ideal destination for a day trip or even a longer stay.
