When the months turn cozy, I make my weekly trip into town, down the back roads, into our tiny village, to find new favorite books.

The library has quietly become one of my favorite homestead resources. You can learn just about anything for free: canning, gardening, homemaking, preserving, even small farming.

I always leave with a stack of old cookbooks, gardening guides, maybe a few classic movies too. There’s something about flipping through those worn pages that feels like learning from the generations before us.

So if you’re dreaming of starting a garden, baking from scratch, or just slowing down a little, your local library might be the best (and most overlooked) place to start.
