5 things I wish I knew before becoming a mom

nobody really talks enough about what motherhood quietly does to women the other 364 days of the year 😭💜

the mental load.

the overstimulation.

the guilt for wanting space.

the pressure to keep showing up even when your body and mind are exhausted.

and after a while… a lot of moms stop asking themselves what THEY need because survival mode becomes normal.

you are not selfish for needing rest.

you are not lazy for feeling mentally overloaded.

and burnout should NEVER be the requirement to be considered a “good mom.”

honestly… support should last longer than Mother’s Day ✨

5/10 Edited to

... Read moreMotherhood is often idealized, but the reality is far more complex than most people share. One of the biggest surprises I encountered was the relentless mental load — the constant juggling of responsibilities, worries, and emotional needs that never seem to pause. It’s not just about caring for a child; it’s also managing the household, planning and organizing, while often neglecting your own needs. Burnout can sneak up quietly, and it’s crucial to recognize that needing rest doesn’t make you selfish, nor does feeling overwhelmed mean you’re failing. In fact, acknowledging these feelings is a powerful step towards better mental health. I found that carving out even short moments of solitude or relaxation helped me recharge and approach motherhood with more patience and clarity. Another underestimated aspect is the guilt many moms feel when they want some personal space. Society often expects moms to be endlessly giving, but setting boundaries is essential for everyone’s wellbeing. It’s okay to say no or ask for help — doing so doesn’t lessen your love or commitment. Support is critical and shouldn’t fade after Mother’s Day. Consistent encouragement from partners, family, and friends can make the difference between surviving and truly thriving as a mom. Open conversations about mental health and shared responsibilities can foster a healthier environment for both mother and child. Through my experience, I’ve learned that survival mode becoming the norm is a warning sign. Moms deserve to check in with themselves regularly and prioritize their own needs without guilt. Remember, being a good mom is not defined by burnout; it’s about love, care, and finding balance in a demanding, beautiful journey.
