Something I’ve been thinking about lately is how much pressure we put on ourselves to have our whole life figured out. Like by a certain age we should know exactly what we’re doing, where we’re going, and what our purpose is supposed to be. By society’s standards, by the time you’re 25 you’re supposed to have your career path figured out, know exactly where your life is going, maybe even be thinking about marriage or buying a house… and I’m like my brain literally just finished developing and now you want me to map out the rest of my life?
I look back at my own life, almost none of the most important moments were things I planned. They were small steps. Everyday decisions and moments where I was just trying to do the right thing with what was in front of me.
And somehow God was shaping direction through all of it without me even realizing it at the time. My life has never really followed the traditional timeline that people talk about. And for a long time that gave me a lot of anxiety, because it felt like I was somehow behind. But the older I get, the more I’m realizing that God doesn’t seem very concerned with the timelines we create for ourselves. Some of the most important things in life take time to unfold and I think we should give ourselves grace. Sometimes what feels like being behind is actually just a season where God is shaping things you can’t fully see yet. I laugh sometimes thinking about what 18-year-old me thought my life was going to look like. If I could tell her everything that actually happened between then and now, I think she’d be pretty shocked. But I think it’s also a reminder that life unfolds in its own way, and we’re allowed to give ourselves grace along the way.

Many of us feel overwhelmed by societal expectations to have everything planned out by a specific age. From career milestones to personal goals, the pressure can be suffocating. But through my own experience, I’ve learned that purpose is rarely found through rigid planning—it’s discovered through everyday choices and trusting the path that unfolds naturally. What’s helped me most is embracing the idea of giving myself grace. Life isn’t a race, and some of the most meaningful experiences can’t be rushed or forced. When I stopped stressing about ‘finding my purpose,’ I opened myself to unexpected growth and opportunities. It felt like God was quietly guiding me through these small, seemingly insignificant moments that, in hindsight, were shaping my direction more than any grand plan ever could. I also find comforting the concept that life’s timeline doesn’t have to fit society’s mold. Being ‘behind’ isn’t failure; it’s often a season of preparation and growth. Each phase has its value, and sometimes what seems like a delay is actually a time when important parts of who we are are being shaped. This mindset shift reduced my anxiety and helped me enjoy the present without constantly worrying about the future. The message to ‘Stop Trying to Find Your Purpose’ as shown in the image resonates deeply. Instead of chasing a single defining moment or achievement, focus on living authentically and embracing where you are right now. Trust that your journey, with all its twists and turns, is part of a bigger plan. This approach has transformed how I view challenges and uncertainties, turning them into opportunities for faith and personal growth. For anyone feeling lost or pressured, remember: it’s okay to move at your own pace. Purpose unfolds over time, through repeated acts of faith and grace. Let go of the timeline and be open to the unique way your story is being written. Life’s beauty is in its unpredictability and the faith that guides us through it.
