1 Night, 9 months…. Part 5
Daysha had left not long after midnight, heels echoing down the hallway, irritation riding her voice as she complained about seating arrangements and optics at the party. Tahje barely listened. He never did when he felt untouchable.
The door closed behind her.
That was when the lights flickered.
Once.
Twice.
Then the penthouse dropped into darkness.
Tahje frowned, instinctively glancing out the floor-to-ceiling windows. Across the street, the city glowed—apartments lit, traffic steady, life uninterrupted. Whatever this was, it wasn’t a blackout.
His jaw tightened.
“Who is here?” he asked aloud, forcing steadiness into his voice as his eyes adjusted to the dark.
Silence answered him.
Then a voice rose from the far end of the room—calm, controlled, laced with something colder than fear.
“Me,” she said. “The woman you took advantage of.”
Tahje’s chest tightened. He knew that voice.
“Kyra,” he said slowly, turning toward the sound. “You shouldn’t be here.”
A soft laugh followed, humorless.
“You locked me in,” she replied. “You hunted me. You lied about who you were.”
She stepped forward just enough for him to see her outline in the dim city glow. “An OB-GYN with a double life. Women on rotation. Secrets stacked like medical charts.”
Tahje took a step back. “You’re emotional. Let’s talk—”
“No,” Kyra cut in sharply. “You don’t get to ‘talk’ anymore. You don’t get to explain away control as preference or manipulation as honesty.”
She moved again, closer now. Confident.
“I blamed myself,” she continued. “For my dating history. For ignoring red flags. For thinking I was the problem.” Her voice steadied, hardened. “But tonight, I finally see the pattern. And it’s you.”
Tahje swallowed. His eyes darted toward the hallway, the exits, the dark corners of the penthouse.
“You don’t want to do this,” he said.
Kyra tilted her head. “Do what?”
Another step.
“Make you face what you are.”
The city lights outside kept shining.
But inside the penthouse, Tahje realized something far more terrifying than the darkness itself:
For the first time, he wasn’t in control.
