1 Night, 9 Months…. Part 8
Daysha stepped closer, her jaw tight, eyes darting as if she was trying to decide whether to swing or scream.
“Knew he had a girl?” Kyra repeated, wiping a tear of laughter from her eye. “Girl, I knew he had you calling his phone while he was laid up with me. Big difference.”
Daysha’s face flushed. “You didn’t have to stay.”
“And he didn’t have to lie,” Kyra shot back. “But look at us—both standing here embarrassed while he’s nowhere to be found.”
Daysha folded her arms, voice dropping. “You think this is funny?”
“No,” Kyra said, her smile fading just a little. “I think it’s pathetic. You checking me instead of checking him.”
Daysha hesitated. That hit harder than she expected.
“So what, you just walking away?” Daysha asked.
Kyra grabbed her bag, already backing up. “I already did. Whatever mess y’all got? Keep it. Just don’t ever come at me like I owed you loyalty when your man couldn’t even give you honesty.”
Kyra turned and walked off, heels clicking sharp against the concrete.
Behind her, Daysha stood frozen—phone buzzing in her hand.
Tahje was calling.
Daysha stared at the pregnancy test like it had just detonated in her hand.
“What… what is this?” she whispered, her voice cracking.
Kyra paused at the curb, turning just enough for Daysha to see the calm on her face—the kind that only comes when someone has already survived the worst part.
“Explain that too,” Kyra said smoothly. “Since you so big on explanations.”
Daysha shook her head, disbelief turning into fury. “You lying.”
Kyra laughed under her breath. “I wish. Two lines don’t lie, sweetheart.”
Daysha rushed forward. “You aren’t pregnant with his baby. And if you are—” she stopped herself, then spat, “—get rid of it.”
Kyra’s smile sharpened. “See, that’s where you and me different.” She stepped closer, her voice low and deadly calm. “I don’t erase my problems. I expose them.”
She turned fully now, eyes locking into Daysha’s. “And whether it’s mine or yours, that baby is proof. Proof he ain’t loyal. Proof he reckless. Proof he been playing in both our faces.”
Daysha’s phone buzzed again. Tahje. Still calling.
Kyra took one last look at her. “Good luck explaining this to yourself. And when he starts lying?” She shrugged. “Remember—I already warned you.”
Kyra walked away for real this time, disappearing down the street.
Daysha stood there alone, pregnancy test clenched in her fist, phone vibrating nonstop.
For the first time, Tahje’s silence scared her more than Kyra’s truth.
