1 Night 9 Months … part 7
The sound cracked the night open.
Kyra didn’t feel pain at first—just impact. Like the ground rushed up to meet her before she could finish the step. Her body folded, knees giving way, palms scraping concrete as the world tilted sideways.
Tahje’s breath left him all at once.
“Kyra—”
Chaos erupted. Doors slammed. Someone shouted her name. Another voice cursed. The men Tahje had waiting froze, hands hovering near weapons they hadn’t expected to use yet. This wasn’t how it was supposed to go.
Blood spread fast, dark against her light dress, soaking through fabric like a secret finally exposed.
Kyra laughed.
It startled everyone.
A low, breathless laugh crawled out of her chest as she turned her head just enough to look at Tahje. Her vision blurred, but she could still see his face—ashen, shaken, stripped of the control he wore so well.
“You still… don’t get it,” she whispered.
Tahje dropped to his knees beside her, pressing his hands down hard. “Call it in. Now!” he barked, voice cracking. “Get her help!”
Kyra grabbed his wrist with surprising strength.
“No,” she said. “You don’t get to save me.”
Her fingers tightened, nails digging into his skin. Her smile trembled but never disappeared.
“This was never about me leaving,” she breathed. “It was about you losing.”
Sirens wailed in the distance—too close, too fast. Someone had talked. Someone always did.
Tahje looked up, panic finally winning.
Kyra’s eyes fluttered, but before they closed, she said the words that would haunt him forever:
“You should’ve killed me inside.”
Then everything went black.
And Tahje learned the most dangerous truth of all—
Even bleeding, even broken, Kyra was still the one in control.
