This is what $30 gets you for BRUNCH at a cafe
We checked out Bread Yard, a cafe known for defying the usual $20+ brunch prices. With most of their base dishes sitting at an incredibly affordable $8, we had to see if it was actually worth the hype. Here’s our honest review.
🍝MALFALDINE PESTO ($8) - 🍴4/5
Garlicky, cheesy, and saucy with a pasta texture that works well. The malfaldine ridges trap every bit of sauce making each bite rich and coating. The pesto itself leans oily and the basil and nuttiness get lost somewhere along the way.
🍞CREAMY MUSHROOM & SOFT EGG TOAST ($8) - 🍴4.5/5
Perfectly cooked runny egg on crispy sourdough with earthy mushrooms that balanced out the richness and tangyness of the egg and sourdough. Each component is simple but the combination works well.
🥪GRILLED CHEESE ($8) -🍴3/5
The bread was not toasted enough, so not as crispy as it looks. Although the dish was super cheesy with 2 kinds of cheeses on the bread and inside, there was no cheese pull to it.
☕️BLUE PEA YUAN YANG ($8) - 🍴3/5
It was just regular coffee. Not much blue pea flavour at all. Tip, order the cold version if you want to see the blue pea visual in the picture. We got recommended to order the hot one which honestly was just normal coffee to us.
💰AFFORDABILITY - 4/5
At $8 per dish across four items the pricing is one of Breadyard's strongest arguments. In a market where cafes routinely charge $18 to $22 for brunch, getting four dishes and a drink for $30.50 between two people is hard to fault. Do note that a downside is $8 are only for pasta. Toppings such as meat have an add on about $6.

Surprisingly manageable for a Sunday brunch spot. Food arrived in about 15 minutes after ordering which is reasonable for cafe brunch. Weekday lunch hours are a different story. Expect longer queues.

Exploring affordable brunch spots like Bread Yard has been a refreshing change from the usual pricey options. What stands out most is how the cafe manages to keep base dish prices at $8, which is quite rare given that many brunch places charge upwards of $20 for similar meals. The malfaldine pesto, while garlicky and cheesy, has a slight oily note that might not suit everyone's palate, but the pasta's sauce-holding texture makes it enjoyable bite after bite. The creamy mushroom & soft egg toast was my favorite—the balance of the runny egg, earthy mushrooms, and tangy sourdough created a comforting and satisfying taste experience. However, the grilled cheese fell a bit short for me; it lacked that crispy toastiness and cheese pull that I usually look forward to, making it feel a bit underwhelming despite being loaded with cheese. As for beverages, the Blue Pea Yuan Yang in its hot form didn’t deliver much in terms of flavor or the distinct blue pea color, so I’d recommend trying the cold version if you want that visual appeal alongside your coffee. The cafe’s cozy atmosphere and reasonable waiting times (around 15 minutes on a busy Sunday) also contributed positively to the overall dining experience. One thing to keep in mind is that while basic dishes are priced affordably, meat toppings come with additional charges, which can increase the total cost. Despite this, I find Bread Yard to be a worthwhile choice for those looking to enjoy brunch without breaking the bank. It's important to visit during off-peak times to avoid long queues, especially on weekends. Overall, Bread Yard offers great value with tasty dishes and an inviting ambiance, making it a must-try for budget-conscious foodies looking for quality brunch in Singapore.
