White Blood Cells! 🌼

Segmented Neutrophils (PMC)🧫

- The most abundant cell

- Granulocyte ( has granules in the cytoplasm)

- Volume increases when bacterial infection is present

Lymphocytes 🦠

- About the same size as a red blood cell

- Plays a role in immunity and antibody production

- Has a few different forms that have different jobs

- Volume increases when viral infections are present

Monocytes🔥

- Phagocytic ( Phag- eat) this cell is a cleaner, it eats up debris!

- Can contain vacuoles ( small circular clearings) during the cleaning process

- May elevate in inflammatory conditions

Eosinophils🎀

- Granulocyte! (Most say the granules are orange but to me they are pink!)

- Can also be sighted in inflammatory conditions

- Seen during allergic reactions

- Also seen during parasitic infections

Basophils🍇

- The least abundant cell!

- Granulocyte! ( the granules actually cover over the nucleus in this cell)

- Present during allergic reactions

- Granules contain histamine, serotonin, and heparin!

... Read moreWhite blood cells, or leukocytes, are a crucial component of the immune system, protecting the body against infections and foreign invaders. Among the five main types are Neutrophils, which respond rapidly to bacterial infections; Lymphocytes, essential for adaptive immunity and antibody production; Monocytes, known for their phagocytic properties that help clear debris; Eosinophils, which are active during allergic reactions and parasitic infections; and Basophils, the least common type, involved in inflammatory responses. Each type plays a unique role in maintaining health, and their levels may fluctuate depending on various health conditions. For instance, individuals experiencing allergies might have elevated Eosinophil counts. Additionally, ongoing research has provided insights into how these cells interact with each other and their environment, influencing the overall immune response. Understanding the dynamics of these cells is vital for advancing treatments for various conditions, including infections, allergies, and autoimmune disorders. Staying informed about your immune health can aid in early detection and management of these issues.
