This is what it looks like
Presence is quieter than it used to be.
I used to think being present meant being reachable.
Quick replies.
Always available.
Always a little ahead of what was needed.
Now it looks more like this.
Waiting until the end of the stuffed animal puppet show. Folding laundry without checking my phone. Letting a message wait until I can answer it properly. Finishing one thing before starting the next.
Living with kids means interruptions are constant. Marriage means there’s always someone to respond to.
So presence has become quieter.
Less about speed.
More about attention.
It feels less impressive than before. And much more real.
