Trash can deodorizing 101😷
hi friends!!
one thing i haaaaate cleaning is trash cans... they seem to always have the smell and residue of anything that has been in there before...
so once a week, this is what i do to deodorize it and keep it clean!
- completely wash and rinse the can. scrubbing down the trash can will help immediately deodorize it rather than just always letting it sit and throw bags in one after the other.
- also, switch up the bags you use?! i have been loving these that smell like lavender... immediately YES
all in all, it simply is a trash can so it can get messy and nasty, but small changes can help keep it clean! :)
Maintaining a fresh-smelling trash can is essential for a clean home environment. According to the tips highlighted in "Trash Can Deodorizing 101," the first crucial step is to completely wash and rinse the trash can once a week, scrubbing inside and out to eliminate residue, crumbs, or spilled liquids that accumulate over time. This thorough cleaning helps immediately reduce odors rather than simply relying on new bags to mask smells. Next, opting for scented trash bags, such as those with lavender fragrance or Febreze freshness, can effectively mask unpleasant odors. These bags often have multiple layers and drawstrings to securely grip the can, minimizing leaks and further odor emission. Incorporating scented bags is a simple yet efficient way to keep trash cans smelling fresh. Another important practice is to take out the trash regularly—preferably every night or at least every other day. Frequent emptying prevents odor-causing bacteria from growing inside the bin. This proactive approach not only keeps the trash can cleaner but also helps maintain overall kitchen hygiene. Additional strategies include placing deodorizing agents such as baking soda or activated charcoal at the bottom of the bin to absorb odors, or using washable liners to facilitate easier cleaning. Also, ensuring that trash can lids close tightly can help contain smells. By combining these techniques, homeowners can significantly reduce trash can odors, creating a more pleasant living space. Implementing these simple habits—weekly washing, using scented liners, and timely trash removal—can transform the often dreaded chore of trash management into an effortless routine that promotes freshness and cleanliness throughout your home.
