Activation of Windows XP current unprotected
Experts warn Windows XP's current unprotected activation can be infected with malware in 10 minutes.
Windows XP is a Windows operating system that was called classic and used in the 2000s. It can be called used by every home company, but after a while, it has been replaced by many new ones until the current version of Windows 11. Many readers may think about it and want to try it, but doing so may be very dangerous.
According to a report by the website Modern Digital, it discusses the research of running older Windows without any protection systems by independent researcher Eric Parker to test how resistant older Windows are to modern-day malware, starting with testing Windows XP Service Pack 3 on a Virtual Machine environment, with removing protections such as turning off the firewall, turning off the NAT, and connecting directly to a public IP number, which simulates a computer's internet connection more than 20 years ago. Windows XP was immediately infected with malware in 10 minutes, starting with the detection of a malware process called "conhoz.exe," followed by a variety of malware that ran within the Temporary Folders. It also detected an unauthorized connection to the FTP server, which allowed hackers to take over remote control, and so many attacks that Windows XP was completely occupied.
This is partly due to a vulnerability named EternalBlue that allows hackers to run RCE or Remote Code Execution, which leads to the installation of malware. Other reasons are also due to the shutdown of safeguards like Firewall and the direct connection to Public IP. Even with the use of Firewall and routers, the use of older web browsers is still dangerous.
For testing in the same way on Windows 7, this version of Windows was found to be much more resistant to malware than Windows XP because it can withstand up to 10 hours without being controlled by malware. It is called excellent durability, but the tester said that although it has good internal protection, it is not fully protective. And the best way is to use the latest version of Windows and upgrade the security patch regularly.
