🥖 Subway-Inspired Italian Herb & Cheese Sub Rolls

Ingredients

• 1 cup warm water (110°F)

• 2 tsp active dry yeast

• 1 tbsp honey or sugar

• 3–3½ cups all-purpose flour

• 2 tbsp olive oil (plus more for brushing)

• 1 egg

• 2 tsp salt

• Italian seasoning, shredded cheddar, and parmesan (to taste)

Instructions

1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and honey. Let sit for about 10 minutes, until foamy.

2. In a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook, add 3½ cups flour, egg, salt, olive oil, and the yeast mixture. Knead on medium speed for about 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

3. Transfer dough to a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

4. Punch down the dough and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface.

5. Divide into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rectangle using a rolling pin.

6. Roll the dough up by hand into a log, tucking the ends in halfway through rolling. Place seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

7. Cover loosely and let rise again for 30 minutes.

8. Score the tops lightly, brush with olive oil, and sprinkle generously with Italian seasoning, cheddar, and parmesan.

9. Bake at 375°F for 20 minutes, or until golden.

10. Let cool for about 10 minutes, then slice, fill with your favorite sandwich fixings, and enjoy 🤍
