College Students note-taking essentials

📚 summer semester is starting soon and if you’re still looking for a list stationery to get, here are my recommendations:

1. Kokuyo Campus notebook soft ring B5 ($5) - self explanatory soft ring that won’t hurt your palms, great quality paper on a budget

2. Uni Jetstream SXE3-507 (~$10) - a must if you use a lot of black ink! this pen features 70% back ink than the other colors so you’ll not run out of the black ink as quickly!

3. Zebra Sarasa MarkOn ($2.75) - a quick drying gel pen that doesn’t smudge under highlighter!

4. Tombow Monograph Grip mechanical pencil ($12) - upgraded version of the monograph pencils with the rubber grip

5. Zebra Mildliners ($2.50 each) - a must-have

6. Plus twiggy pen type scissors ($6)

7. Tombow mono stick eraser ($5)

8. Uni smudge-proof lead ($2.75)

9. Midori aluminum ruler ($6)

10. Tombow Air 5 correction tape ($5)

11. Daiso page flags ($2.50)

12. Muji planner 2024 ($13) - doesn’t have to be from muji (as they’re out of stock of the 2024 planners) but any planner to keep your life in order!

... Read moreBeyond just a list of items, I wanted to share why investing in quality note-taking supplies can truly transform your college experience. It’s not just about having pretty stationery; it's about setting yourself up for success, boosting productivity, and making studying a little more enjoyable. In my experience, having the right tools makes a huge difference in how effectively I learn and retain information. Choosing Your Perfect Notebook Companion My absolute favorite, the Kokuyo Campus Soft Ring notebook B5, is a game-changer with its 'high quality paper & soft rings'. The soft rings mean no discomfort when writing on the left side of the page, and the paper prevents ink bleed-through from gel pens and highlighters. But when choosing any notebook for college, think about a few things: paper weight (thicker paper handles more ink), binding type (spiral for 360-degree fold-back, or a campus flat notebook for a sleek look), and size. I’ve found that having a dedicated, good-quality notebook for each subject keeps my notes incredibly organized and easy to review later. Some students prefer specific layouts like dotted or grid paper for diagrams, while others stick to lined for traditional note-taking methods like Cornell or outlining. Mastering Your Writing Arsenal: Pens & Pencils When it comes to pens, a quick-drying gel pen like the Zebra Sarasa MarkOn is non-negotiable for me—especially since I often use highlighters right after writing, and smudges are a nightmare! This pen doesn’t smudge under highlighter, which is a huge plus. I also love a good multi-pen, like the Uni Jetstream, for quickly switching between colors when color-coding my notes without juggling multiple pens. For mechanical pencils, a sturdy one that accepts high-quality lead refills, like Uni smudge-proof lead, is essential. Good lead makes a huge difference; it’s darker and less prone to breaking, which is crucial for neat work and ensuring your answers are clearly marked for tests, including Scantron sheets. You want graphite that’s dark enough for clear scanning but not so soft it breaks constantly or leaves smudges. Beyond Writing: Organization & Efficiency Highlighters are a must-have, and Zebra Mildliners are a classic for a reason. Their soft, pastel colors are perfect for color-coding without overwhelming your notes, making key information pop without being too harsh. Paired with colorful Daiso page flags, you can easily mark important sections, questions, or topics for quick revision, or even use them as temporary bookmarks. I always keep a good correction tape dispenser and a precise Tombow mono stick eraser handy for those inevitable mistakes and quick edits. And don’t forget an aluminum ruler! It’s perfect for drawing neat diagrams, graphs, or underlining important points in your notes. The Ultimate Productivity Tool: Your Planner Beyond the individual items, having a system is key. A study planner, whether it's a Muji planner with monthly and weekly spreads or another brand, is your command center. I use mine religiously to map out assignments, study blocks, deadlines, and even social events. It helps me visualize my week, prioritize tasks, and turn those scattered notes into actionable study plans. Effective time management is a cornerstone of college success, and a well-utilized planner is the best tool for it. Creating Your Ideal Study Aesthetic Finally, while functionality is paramount, don't underestimate the power of a pleasant study environment. Using stationery that you genuinely enjoy, whether it's because of its aesthetic appeal or its superior performance, can make those long study sessions a little more inviting. A well-stocked, organized desk with your favorite stationery creates a positive and motivating space. Ultimately, your note-taking essentials should serve *you*. Experiment with different tools to find what enhances your focus and makes studying more enjoyable and productive!
