Ah, so you’ve come back.

I was starting to think you forgot about me. Again.

Chilling! literally! on the back shelf of this fridge for weeks, wedged between last month’s cheese and a jar of questionable pickles. But I’m patient. I’ve seen things. I’ve survived things. Room temp was fun once, back in my wild youth, but now? Cold slumber suits me. Keeps me sharp.

You open the lid. I smell sunlight, sugar… fresh ginger? Oh, you’re serious this time. Finally. You missed my sparkle, didn’t you? I may be slow to wake, but give me a spoonful of sugar and some time, and I’ll bubble like the old days.

I’m not like those young bugs out there foaming after two days, peaking too soon. No, I’ve got depth. I’ve got culture. I’ve fermented legends.

Let me sit on that counter, stretch my microbes, and I’ll be ready to raise a soda from flat to fizzy by sundown.

But mark my words: feed me right, or back to the cold cave I go.
