the life I have now is nothing like the one I thought I wanted at 22.
Sitting here in a hotel robe, across the street from where I lived back then…
I remember being here and thinking everything was going wrong.
My career wasn’t on track, nothing felt certain, and I was convinced I was falling behind.
I thought I had missed something.
Like everyone else had it figured out and I didn’t.
But now, looking at the life I’ve built — the places I’ve been, the experiences I’ve had…
I can see it so clearly.
None of it was falling apart.
It was just unfolding differently than I expected.
And honestly… better.
It didn’t go to plan, and I’m so glad 🥰
Sometimes, you need to see where life leads you.
Reflecting on my own journey, I realize that many of us feel the pressure to have our lives perfectly mapped out by our early twenties. At 22, I believed that my career path was a straight line that I was supposed to follow. When things didn’t go according to the plan I’d carefully constructed, I felt as if I had failed or fallen behind my peers. But with time and distance, the perspective shifted dramatically. Sitting in a hotel robe across the street from my former home, I found a rare moment to look back and understand that what seemed like chaos was really a gradual unfolding of opportunities and growth. The career I once obsessively chased isn’t where I found my fulfillment. Instead, the detours and unexpected turns led me to new places, people, and experiences that shaped who I am today. It’s important to remember that the feeling of falling behind is often an illusion driven by comparing ourselves to others’ highlight reels. Everyone’s life unfolds on a unique timeline. Embracing uncertainty and being open to change can lead to personal growth and happiness far beyond rigid plans. If you’re struggling with feeling lost or off-track, try to shift your mindset. Instead of focusing on what hasn’t gone to plan, celebrate the small wins and lessons learned along the way. Life has a beautifully unpredictable rhythm — sometimes, the best opportunities come disguised as setbacks. My advice is to take chances and romanticize your life story, seeing challenges as necessary chapters that enrich your journey.
