... Read moreAs a medical assistant involved in dermatology care, I've learned how vital thorough patient examination and follow-up are to effective treatment outcomes. For example, when dealing with actinic keratosis, cryotherapy offers a targeted approach to reduce precancerous lesions, dramatically lowering the risk of progression to squamous cell carcinoma. During patient visits, I’ve seen the importance of not only treating these lesions but also educating patients about sun protection and skin cancer prevention. Another condition I frequently assist with is rosacea; consistent follow-up is crucial to tailor treatment plans and monitor for flare-ups. Biopsy procedures, which I help prepare patients for, remain key to accurate diagnosis when unusual lesions appear. Full body skin exams (FBSE) allow clinicians to identify suspicious spots early; in my experience, this comprehensive approach has saved lives through early detection. Additionally, managing common but challenging conditions like acne requires patience and ongoing monitoring. Treatments such as Daxxify and Accutane involve careful scheduling of follow-ups to assess efficacy and manage side effects. Being involved in these varied treatments—from tick bite evaluations to managing infections like impetigo—requires attention to detail and empathy. Each patient’s journey is unique, and I find that personalized care, coupled with open communication, fosters trust and better adherence to treatment plans. Sharing these hands-on experiences highlights the complexity and rewards of a career in dermatology support roles.
