“Golden Boy” หรือ “Standing Shiva”
"Golden Boy" or "Standing Shiva" at the National Museum Bangkok.
🏺 History & Significance
• It is a gold-shelled bronze sculpture with a height of ~ 129 cm (including the base) or about 4 feet.
• Scholars believe it is a Shiva image based on Lop Buri art, or possibly King Jayavarman VI of the Khmer Empire, around the 16th century (some 900-1,000 years ago).
📦 Return route
• Source found at Surin-Buriram by villagers dug in 1975 before being taken out of the country through a broker.
• Shortly later, the Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met), New York, was accepted as a collection and exhibited from 1988-2023 ().
• The latter has evidence linked to Douglas Latchford, a Southeast Asian antique smuggler and smuggler.
• In 2023, The Met agreed to return Golden Boy with "Kneeling Lady" through the Thai Ministry of Culture and officially received it on May 21, 2024 at the National Museum of the City.
