Badlands National Park

n 2016 we fulfilled a number of my Mother’s Wish List items. She was dying from kidney failure. She had always wanted to see Mount Rushmore, and she had always wanted to have an RV. So we rented an RV and went on a 2 week road trip to Mount Rushmore. I checked off several of the National Parks on this trip, and of course when in South Dakota you have to go to Badlands… The sheer starkness… the wildlife… the amazing rock formations… such a dramatic landscape makes for amazing photos….

... Read moreVisiting Badlands National Park is truly an unforgettable experience for anyone who loves nature and dramatic landscapes. On my recent trip, I was struck by the park’s vast expanses of sharply eroded buttes, pinnacles, and spires that create a surreal, almost otherworldly environment. The park’s unique geology tells a story millions of years in the making, and walking through the trails gives you a chance to witness layers of history etched into the rocks. One of the highlights of the visit is the abundant wildlife. From bison herds grazing in the prairies to curious bighorn sheep navigating the steep ridges, wildlife sightings add a vibrant element to the stark scenery. Bird watchers will also find plenty to admire, with species like prairie falcons and meadowlarks frequently spotted. For those planning a trip, renting an RV as part of a road trip is a fantastic way to explore Badlands and surrounding attractions like Mount Rushmore. It offers flexibility and allows you to experience the park at different times of the day, especially dawn and dusk when the light casts breathtaking shadows and colors across the formations. Photography enthusiasts will find Badlands a paradise. The contrast between the sharply defined rock features, open sky, and wildlife creates endless opportunities for stunning photos. Sunrise brings warm, golden hues to the landscape, while sunset paints the rocks in deep reds and purples. The journey to Badlands also offers a chance to reflect and connect with nature in a profound way. The park’s vastness and raw beauty provided a meaningful backdrop as we fulfilled some very personal travel wishes. For anyone looking to combine adventure with a deeply moving travel experience, Badlands National Park is an excellent choice that delivers both scenic wonder and emotional fulfillment.
