WINTER ARC TIPS

In my opinion, winter is the BEST time to lock into a routine and have tunnel vision. Summer bodies are BUILT IN THE WINTER. I know it’s said often, but it is true. Here are a few of my daily non-negotiables to slay my winter arc:

⁃ Daily Movement: Get your body moving, even if it’s just a walk or some stretches. Keeping active helps boost your mood, lose fat and increase energy, which is so important during the winter, not only physically, but mentally as well.

⁃ Prioritize Protein/Eat Healthy: Fuel your body with balanced meals and plenty of protein to keep your muscles strong and your energy steady! Winter comfort foods can be nutritious and still delicious. I aim to hit at LEAST 1g of protein per lb or body weight or goal weight. Winter is also the perfect time to have a “growing phase” if you want.

⁃ Consistent Sleep/Wake Time: Waking up at the same time every day and getting quality sleep will help your body get into rhythm and feel energized, even during shorter days.

⁃ Limit Screen Time: Give yourself time to unwind and recharge by cutting down on screen time before bed. It’s perfect for helping your mind reset!

Start small with these habits and slowly build a routine that feels sustainable. That way, you won’t feel overwhelmed—and you’ll be slaying your Winter arc in no time!🫶🏻

On warmer days, or when I just needed a mental break, long walks became my sanctuary. It's about finding what sparks joy for *you*. Don't underestimate the power of indoor activities either – a quick online dance class, a yoga flow, or even just stretching while watching TV can keep your body limber and your blood flowing. The key is consistency over intensity, especially when the weather tries to keep you glued to the couch. Fueling Your Winter Arc: Beyond Just Protein Prioritizing protein is a game-changer, absolutely! But to truly support your winter arc, think about the bigger picture of nutrition. I’ve found that meal prepping on Sundays makes healthy eating almost effortless during the week. Having nutritious, high-protein meals ready to go prevents me from reaching for less ideal comfort foods when hunger strikes. Don't forget about incorporating plenty of fiber-rich vegetables and healthy fats – they help keep you full, regulate blood sugar, and provide essential nutrients often lacking in winter diets. And a personal tip: stay on top of your hydration! It’s easy to forget to drink enough water when it’s cold, but proper hydration is crucial for energy, metabolism, and overall well-being. I keep a water bottle with me constantly. Leveling Up Your Sleep Sanctuary Consistent sleep and wake times are foundational, but I've realized that the quality of sleep can be significantly improved with a few tweaks. My bedroom is now a no-screen zone at least an hour before bed. Instead, I dim the lights, read a physical book, or listen to calming music. I also invested in blackout curtains to block out any light, creating a truly dark cave for optimal melatonin production. In the mornings, I make an effort to expose myself to natural light as soon as I wake up, even if it's just stepping out onto a balcony or sitting by a window. This signals to my body that it's daytime, helping to regulate my circadian rhythm and boost my energy. Cultivating a Winter-Proof Mindset The biggest challenge of a winter arc can be mental. It’s easy to feel drained by shorter days. What has helped me immensely is setting small, achievable goals each week rather than overwhelming myself with grand declarations. I also started a gratitude journal, writing down three things I'm thankful for each morning. This simple practice shifts my focus from what’s difficult to what’s positive.
