Surgery

... Read moreThe night before surgery can be filled with so many emotions, and for many, the biggest fear isn't the operation itself, but the thought of being 'put to sleep.' That feeling of 'what if I don't wake up?' is incredibly common, and I've certainly felt it myself. The anxiety leading up to my own surgery was overwhelming, and my mind raced with questions about general anesthesia: What does it feel like? Will it hurt? Will I lose control? It felt like stepping into the unknown, and I was genuinely terrified of being put to sleep. It really helps to understand a little bit about what happens when you're put to sleep for surgery. Anesthesiologists are highly trained doctors whose sole job is to keep you safe and comfortable throughout the procedure. They use powerful medications to induce a reversible state of unconsciousness, where you won't feel pain or remember anything. They meticulously monitor your vital signs – heart rate, breathing, blood pressure – every single second. They are experts at what they do, and their primary focus is your well-being. The fear of not waking up is perhaps the most profound. It's important to know that serious complications from general anesthesia are extremely rare, especially in healthy individuals. Modern anesthesia is incredibly safe, and advancements in medicine mean that anesthesiologists have precise control over the medications and your body's response. They are prepared for any scenario and have protocols in place to ensure your safety throughout the entire process. Here are some things that helped me cope with the anxiety surrounding being put to sleep for surgery: Talk to Your Anesthesiologist: Before your surgery, you'll have a chance to meet your anesthesiologist. This is your moment to ask every single question, no matter how silly it might seem. They can explain the process, address your specific worries about being put to sleep, and reassure you. Don't hold back – they want you to feel comfortable and informed. Communicate Your Anxiety: Let your medical team know you're feeling anxious. They might be able to prescribe a mild sedative to help you relax before you even go into the operating room. Sometimes just vocalizing your fears can make a difference. Distraction Techniques: In the days leading up to surgery tomorrow, try to keep your mind occupied. Read a book, watch a favorite movie, listen to calming music, or engage in hobbies you enjoy. On the morning of, focus on your breathing – deep and slow breaths can help regulate your nervous system. Positive Visualization: Imagine waking up comfortably after the surgery, feeling relieved, and beginning your recovery. Focus on the positive outcome and the reasons you are having the surgery in the first place. Lean on Your Support System: Talk to friends or family who have had surgery. Hearing their positive experiences and how they coped can be incredibly reassuring. Don't be afraid to ask for emotional support. Prepare for Post-Op: Knowing what to expect after surgery can also reduce pre-op anxiety. Ask about pain management, recovery time, and what your first few hours post-op will be like. Having a clear picture of the whole process can make the unknown less daunting. Remember, it's completely normal to feel terrified when facing surgery, especially the idea of being put to sleep. You are not alone in these feelings. Trust in your medical team, arm yourself with information, and allow yourself to feel those emotions. You've got this, and soon this anxious waiting will be a distant memory as you move towards recovery.

You will be fine. I have had nine surgeries in my life. I think I am a cat.! each time I was afraid I wouldn’t wake up but each time the Lord was by my side, and the surgeon’s hands were guided by Him - the same thing will happen. You will be OK💕

if you dont wake you won't have to worry bout this life anymore. say your prayers before you go to surgery. I'll say a prayer for you now. dear heavenly father may this one of your children come thru surgery with the best results & less pain possible. we give You all the praise. may You comfort her in her time of need & give her the peace that surpasses all understanding. in Jesus the Christ i pray. amen
