I started metformin for my pcos

I started metformin for my PCOS to help manage symptoms, I'm one week in and here are the changes I've noticed.

- I'm not super bloated after eating anymore

- Dark circles are gone and my skin has color again

- weight is actually finally coming off

- I have more energy

I had been trying to manage my PCOS without any meds and I wasn't getting anywhere. 2 months of exercising every day, eating 1500cal or less (anywhere from 900-1500 cal), and only eating whole foods and I hadn't lost a single pound. PCOS weight is stubborn, but with the metformin seeing the scale finally drop below 200 after 3 years was very rewarding. I take 2000mg a day (1000 twice) and there are definitely some unpleasant side effects (that everyone on metformin experiences until their body is used to it) but I feel great even after just one week.

... Read morePolycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) can be challenging, affecting weight, skin, and overall health. Metformin, originally used for diabetes, has gained popularity in treating PCOS due to its effectiveness in regulating insulin levels, which are often elevated in those with this condition. Research shows that metformin can help reduce insulin resistance, which may lead to weight loss and improved metabolic health. Many women report experiencing a reduction in menstrual irregularities and enhancing fertility when using metformin as part of their PCOS management plan. However, side effects, such as stomach upset, may occur initially. It is important to consult a healthcare provider before starting treatment. Combining metformin with a healthy lifestyle—balanced diet and regular exercise—can optimize results in managing PCOS symptoms. For those looking for community support, platforms like #fightingpcos and #healthyeating on social media can offer insights and encouragement.
