Let’s talk about postpartum 🩷
Postpartum begins right after childbirth. While it's often described as lasting about 6 to 8 weeks, the physical, emotional, and mental recovery can continue for up to a year (and sometimes even longer).
For me personally, I never experienced postpartum depression or postpartum psychosis, but I absolutely experienced the baby blues with each of my babies.
For those first several weeks, I cried... a lot. Sometimes I'd simply look at my baby and burst into tears. There wasn't always a reason. I couldn't explain it, and I couldn't stop it.
I've also learned that every postpartum experience can feel different. The more children you have, the more responsibilities you're balancing, and sometimes that transition can feel even heavier.
Thank God for my husband. 🤍 He never tried to "fix" my emotions or make me feel guilty for them. He let me feel everything while taking care of us. After our daughter was born, our son was only 17 months old, and he stepped up in every possible way so I could focus on healing, bonding with our daughter, and simply getting through each day. I'll never take that for granted.
We need to talk about postpartum more.
It shouldn't be taboo. Women shouldn't be afraid to ask for help. Families deserve more education on what postpartum can actually look like and how to support the moms they love.
And to every mom in the thick of postpartum right now: you are not alone. 🤍
Whether you're crying more than usual, feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, or just trying to adjust to your new normal, please know there is no shame in asking for support.
Postpartum is hard, but you don't have to go through it alone. Your babies need you, and you deserve to be cared for too. 🥺
