Car Travel MUST HAVES For Kids

If you’re like me, then car road trips that are over 4 hours are on my list of least favorite things. With this being said, we drove 16 hours from Ohio to Florida on spring break. I knew I needed to be prepared to make this experience the absolute BEST experience it could possibly be 😅

With my seven month old and two year old traveling with us, my goal was to have items that they could both be entertained with. Keep reading to find out what items worked best for us!!

CAR TOYS

Fidget toys, and toys that offer creativity, are the best items for long road trips. Fidget toys keep your child’s attention for longer periods of time, and creative toys such as coloring books give your child a fun little activity to work on. Sticker books are also a hit, too! For babies, teethers and baby fidget spinners work amazing.

ACTIVITY LAP TRAY

Lap trays are ideal for long car rides as they provide a large, flat surface for your child to set their belongings on. Lap trays are often accessorized with a transparent sleeve for a tablet, cup holders for water bottles, and pockets for snacks.

MINI BOARD BOOKS

Books are a great item to bring for long trips even if your child hasn’t learned to read yet. Giving them an opportunity to enjoy and observe the illustrations can open their mind to tons of imagination. I like bringing mini board books since they are durable, and their small size allows room for more books.

I hope these tips can provide some last minute ideas if you’re looking to add fun activities and entertainment for your kids on long car rides.

Lap trays enhance their space, allowing for easy placement of snacks, books, and toys. In addition to toys, consider bringing along mini board books for visual engagement. Even non-readers can benefit from the vivid illustrations, which encourage imagination and storytelling. Prepare for the trip by packing items that cater to different developmental stages, ensuring your infant has teethers and your toddler has fun, educational tools at hand. Lastly, creating a fun atmosphere in the car by integrating music, themed playlists, or sing-alongs can make the journey more vibrant. Traveling with children may feel daunting, but with the right preparations, you can transform those long hours into delightful bonding experiences.
