Halal Korean Tongdak-Gui @ Namu Bulgogi (Hillion)

Did you know? 🌳 Namu Bulgogi is the first in Singapore to bring Korean Oakwood Smoke-Grilling to the table. Their signature Tongdak-gui (통닭구이 roasted chicken) is seasoned and oakwood-fired to perfection, served over crispy nurungji (scorched rice). They currently have 3 outlets – Tampines 1, Hillion Mall, and Northpoint City.

We didn’t go for the whole/half roasted chicken this time (too big a portion for 2 pax 😅), but here’s what we tried:

🍗 2-in-1 Chicken Chop (Original & Gochujjang) with Corn Cheese – $14.90 (⭐ 9/10)

Juicy, tender, and perfectly grilled. The original sauce was mildly sweet and delicious, while the gochujjang was nicely balanced (not too salty or spicy). Paired with corn cheese – SHIOK.

👉 Comes with 2 free sides (add $2.90 for one more). Side choices are extensive with 14 options!

Our picks:

🍠 Mashed Sweet Potato (⭐ almost a 10/10) – cold dish, creamy and addictive.

🍘 Gimmari (Seaweed Rice Noodle Rolls) – crispy but a bit underwhelming, can skip this and try other sides.

🥘 Seafood Pancake (Haemul Pajeon) – $14.90 (⭐ 9/10)

Decent sharing portion (3–4 pax). Loved the QQ, mochi-like texture (reminds us of orh luak 🤤). The seafood toppings were okay, but the dipping sauce elevated it to a solid 9/10. Waiting time is about 20–30 mins, but worth it.

🌶️ Tuna Sundubu - $15.90 (⭐️ 8/10)

Went back on another occasion and tried their tuna sundubu and it was damn shiok! Another must try item if you are craving for some spicy hot soup. Tuna chunks were quite generous too.

💸 Value & Experience

Affordable prices considering it’s Korean dining (esp. compared to most Korean/Japanese places in SG).

🍽️ Service & Ambience

Service was attentive, food came quickly (except pancake, but they did inform us of the wait). Comfortable, spacious outlet – great for groups or casual dinners.

✅ Verdict: Value-for-money Korean food with unique oakwood smoky flavours. We’ll definitely return for the Signature Tongdak-gui next time!

Namu Bulgogi (Hillion)

... Read moreIf you’re curious about halal Korean cuisine in Singapore, Namu Bulgogi is a standout choice, especially at their Hillion Mall outlet. Beyond the signature Tongdak-gui, the menu offers a variety of sides and dishes that reflect authentic Korean flavors with a halal certification, ensuring a worry-free experience for Muslim diners. One of my favorite discoveries was the extensive selection of side dishes—14 choices to complement your meal. The mashed sweet potato side was incredibly creamy and addictive, adding a nice contrast to the smoky chicken. While the gimmari (seaweed rice noodle rolls) were crispy, I found them a bit less exciting compared to the other options, so it’s worth trying other sides instead. Don't overlook the seafood pancake, Haemul Pajeon, which offers a chewy, mochi-like texture that pairs perfectly with its dipping sauce. Although the wait time for this dish can be 20 to 30 minutes, the delicious taste makes it worthwhile. For those craving a comforting soup, the tuna sundubu tofu soup is a great choice—spicy, hearty, and filled with generous tuna chunks. The atmosphere in the Hillion outlet is spacious and comfortable, ideal for casual dinners or gatherings. Service is attentive, and food arrives promptly except for the pancake, which requires some patience but is worth it. Overall, the combination of halal certification, unique oakwood smoky flavors, and affordable pricing makes Namu Bulgogi an excellent destination for Korean food lovers seeking halal options in Singapore. I highly recommend visiting their Hillion Mall outlet and trying the signature Tongdak-gui on your next trip.
