Beyond the more obvious signs, I learned that unexplained itchy skin, dark spots, or even persistent oily hair and back acne, as mentioned in the original post, can sometimes point to a liver working overtime. Our liver is crucial for detoxifying the body, and when it's struggling, toxins can build up and affect our skin. This can lead to a dull complexion, or even more concerning, jaundice (a yellowing of the skin or eyes) if bile isn't processed correctly. I also found out that consistently dry lips, often attributed to dehydration, can sometimes be linked to the liver's inability to properly absorb nutrients or maintain fluid balance, especially when accompanied by other symptoms like dry eyes. For anyone concerned about more serious conditions like cirrhosis, especially women, it's vital to know that symptoms can sometimes be subtle or mistaken for other conditions.
