Finally had the opportunity to head down to Matsu Matcha to try their matcha latte! Have heard much ravings about it!
I ordered the Uji Matcha Latte for a try! Love that i get to choose if i can have the tencha leaves on my matcha latte, look at that gorgeous cup of green! 🍃
The matcha was smooth to drink, and i must say I was feeling a little excited when i spotted the vibrant green - it shows that it’s gonna be a worthwhile cup of drink
The store is in a very convenient location, it’s directly linked from Tanjong Pagar Mrt and fully sheltered (more reasons to go even on rainy days!)
I wasn’t sure that if this was what I should expect. The bitterness of the matcha hit pretty hard. I do have to say i took a while to gulp down the whole cup :/ To be honest, I was a tad disappointed ☹️ Would I give a try again? It’s a 50-50, but not for now!
That’s all for this! Excited to try out any new matcha places soon!
... Read moreVisiting Matsu Matcha to try the Uji Matcha Latte was a unique experience for me, particularly given the hype surrounding their drinks. One aspect I really appreciated was the option to include tencha leaves in the latte, which adds a unique texture and flavor depth rarely offered at casual cafes. The vibrant green color indicated a high-quality matcha, which initially sparked my excitement.
From personal experience, drinking matcha can be quite polarizing because of its natural bitterness. If you're new to matcha or prefer milder flavors, it might be surprising how strong and intense the bitterness can be, just as I encountered. However, those who appreciate authentic Japanese teas often seek out that rich, slightly bitter profile, which speaks to the quality and traditional preparation of the matcha powder used.
Another perk of Matsu Matcha is its location—in a fully sheltered area connected directly from Tanjong Pagar MRT, making it accessible no matter the weather. This convenience is a major factor for me when choosing a cafe, especially in Singapore’s tropical climate.
Despite my initial hesitation with the bitterness, I value the smooth texture and authentic taste that made the experience worthwhile. I think it’s important to try different matcha shops since matcha’s flavor can vary greatly depending on the source and preparation method. My takeaway is that matcha enthusiasts should definitely find their preferred balance of bitterness and creaminess, and Matsu Matcha provides a good base for comparison.
If you’re exploring matcha lattes, I recommend paying attention to how the matcha is sourced and whether the cafe offers options like enjoying tencha leaves. It’s these small choices that can elevate your matcha experience and help you appreciate the nuances of this traditional Japanese tea.
