You Can Care About Someone Without Wanting Them Back
One of the hardest parts of co-parenting with someone who struggles with addiction is this:
You may not love them romantically anymore…
but you still care what happens to them because they’re your child’s parent.
You can want them to heal without wanting to carry their chaos.
You can hope they get better while still keeping boundaries.
You can feel compassion and still choose distance.
Sometimes people mistake boundaries for hatred.
But protecting your peace and your child’s stability doesn’t mean you don’t care.
It just means you’ve learned that caring about someone and sacrificing yourself for them are not the same thing.
And two things can exist at once:
“I genuinely hope you heal.”
AND
“I can’t let your addiction control our lives anymore.”
