Easy & flavourful protein snack! 🥚✨

Needless to say, eggs are one of the most convenient protein snack/meal out there. But I honestly don’t really like having them plain. There comes the craving for 7-11 Hanjuku eggs, which has led to me finding for recipes online to make my own so I can have them whenever I like 😌 (I just had one with Buldak ramen for lunch)

Here’s how to make your own at home!

👩🏻‍🍳 Boil eggs for 7 mins (put eggs in when water is cool and bring to boil) - 7 mins is the prime timing for runny yolk. I was distracted and didn’t managed to scoop mine out in time.. prepare a bowl filled with ice and water to soak the eggs to stop the cooking, and cold water also makes the egg easier to peel.

Placed peeled eggs, chopped garlic, onion, coriander, chili padi in container. Add soya sauce and water 1:1 ratio to cover 3/4 of the eggs. Place in fridge to marinade, wait minimum of 2 hours before serving.

❣️Seasonings are optional, you can also add in a tablespoon of white vinegar / sugar / Mirin depending on the flavour preference. Main ingredients here is soya sauce, water and sugar. (Use more dark soya sauce if you want to serve after 2 hours of marinading)

... Read moreHanjuku eggs are beloved for their soft, runny yolk and savory marinade, making them a popular snack especially when bought from convenience stores like 7-11. But making them at home is easier than you think and tastes just as good or better! One key tip I learned is the timing: boil your eggs starting with cold water and bring it to a boil for exactly 7 minutes to get that ideal slightly runny yolk. Transferring them immediately into an ice bath stops the cooking process, so you don’t end up with hard yolks. This also makes peeling the eggs super simple. For the marinade, I like to chop fresh garlic, onion, coriander, and a little chili padi for a gentle heat. Using a 1:1 ratio of soy sauce and water to cover the eggs 3/4 deep helps the flavors infuse well when chilled for at least 2 hours. Adjusting with a bit of sugar or Mirin balances the salty umami if you want a hint of sweetness. Dark soy sauce can give it a richer color and deeper taste. These eggs not only serve as a great protein-packed snack but also pair amazingly with dishes like spicy ramen or rice bowls. They’re low calorie and super satisfying, great for meal prep or a quick bite anytime. Give it a try—you’ll find yourself craving homemade hanjuku eggs just as much as the store-bought ones!
