A duck "Noritama" inherited from a friend of his father. After Noritama came home, children came to play in a quiet house, and it gradually became lively. However, one day Noritama came back from the hospital and became smaller than before...
Recently, I became captivated by Natsuko Imamura's worldview.
When I read it for the first time, I thought "I might not be good at it...," but strangely I want to read it again.
A sense of discomfort that gradually mixes into the peaceful everyday life. Something is definitely wrong, but the characters do not make it a big problem. That quiet madness-like air makes me chilling to read.

The duck "Noritama" came to the house of the main character "me." Thanks to Noritama, children gather in the quiet house and it becomes more and more lively.
However, when Noritama gets sick and is taken to the hospital and returns, the main character notices that he has been replaced by another duck. However, no one around him seems to be aware of the change, and he is accepted as Noritama... This feeling is indescribably scary.
Even though I'm aware of the discomfort, no one points it out.
It was creepy to read the feeling that things were going as they were.
"Grandma's House" and "Brothers in the Forest" were a series, and it was interesting that the stories were connected.
I thought it might be dementia, but my grandmother is getting better and better. For the convenience of her family, her grandmother holds a birthday party on a day that is not her birthday. I thought it was typical of Natsuko Imamura that strange events at first glance proceed in a simple everyday life.
Even after finishing reading,
"I wonder what that meant?"
And a strange feeling after reading that makes you think.
After all, this unique world view seems to become a habit.

私もこの『あひる』の短編集を読んだ際、まず感じたのは、どこか現実の隣に小さなズレが生じているような不思議な感覚でした。主人公の家にやってきたのりたまというあひるが、病院から戻った後に入れ替わっていることに気づくというシーンは、実生活ではあまり体験できない不安感や孤独感を巧みに表現しています。 特に、周囲の人がその変化に気づかずに受け入れてしまう描写は、認知症の家族を持つ方の心情に重ね合わせることもでき、日常の中に潜む「小さな異変」を静かに見つめる視点が印象的でした。私自身も家族の体調の変化を感じ取りながらも、周囲に指摘されないまま進むことの怖さを思い出し、共感が深まりました。 また、「おばあちゃんの家」や「森の兄弟」という連作では、一見ほのぼのとした設定の中に微妙な違和感が忍び込み、読者の心にずっしりとした余韻を残します。誕生日でない日に誕生日会が開かれるシーンや、元気になるおばあちゃんの不思議な展開は、淡々とした語り口でありながら情感豊かで、多様な解釈を可能にする奥深さがありました。 この短編集は、サクッと読める一方で、その静かな狂気が徐々に心の中で重くのしかかってくる不思議な体験をさせてくれます。読了後に「あの出来事は何を意味していたのだろう？」と何度も考えさせられる作品でした。興味がある方は是非手に取って、その独特な世界に浸ってみてください。
