Aligning my Closet with my Values
I’ve felt another pull to reassess my clothing + fabric choices.
Honestly —
I love variety.
I love texture.
I love how clothes can feel expressive and beautiful.
But lately, I’ve been thinking more about how what we wear impacts our bodies and the planet.
Synthetic fabrics (polyester, nylon, etc.) are made using many chemicals and tend to:
→ restrict airflow
→ trap heat and moisture
→ limit natural movement
When fabrics don’t breathe — especially with tight or prolonged wear (sports bras, leggings, underwear) — it can impact skin health and lymphatic flow.
Less airflow + trapped moisture can increase irritation and imbalances, including a higher likelihood of yeast overgrowth for some bodies.
And because the lymphatic system relies on movement and circulation (not a pump like the heart), chronic restriction may contribute to stagnation — something researchers associate with inflammation and, over time, increased disease risk.
This isn’t a direct cause-and-effect claim — it’s about reducing unnecessary strain where we can.
This doesn’t mean perfection.
It means discernment.
I’m slowly choosing:
• looser silhouettes
• more breathable natural fibers
• cotton, linen, wool, hemp when possible
• more time barefoot and in less-restrictive clothing at home
There are areas where synthetics still make sense for me (like swimwear or certain performance gear — for short periods), but I’m being more intentional — choosing better-quality, longer-lasting pieces and slowly transitioning many of those too.
I’m also shifting how I shop:
→ buying secondhand to reduce demand for new production
→ supporting small businesses I trust
→ prioritizing brands that value ethical labor, natural or organic materials, and thoughtful production
This isn’t about guilt or extremes.
It’s about aligning what touches my skin with what supports my health, my values, and the world I want to live in.
Less plastic.
More breathability.
More intention.

I love this. I shop intentional as well. My closet consists of about 95% natural fiber clothing. I thrift all my clothes so it was easy to transition to an all natural closet. 🥰
