Root Causes of Constipation

let’s talk 💩 for a moment

because it’s a normal bodily function. & when you talk about gut health, bowel movements are a part of that.

Constipation is never just random—there’s always a reason behind it! 🌿 If you're struggling with constipation, it's your body's way of signaling that something is off.

you should not have to rely on medication to go. so if you do - know there IS a reason behind it.

& you hear the tips of “drink more water” or “eat more fiber” but as you see all the root causes—— it’s more than water and fiber.

Regular elimination is the primary way we move waste, metals, used hormones and toxins out of the body.

💩

Optimal bowel movements should happen at least once a day with a healthy signal to go, leading to a smooth, complete emptying. Ideally, stools should be soft, smooth, and sink, not float. You also shouldn’t see undigested food in the stool.

If this isn’t your norm, it's time to dig deeper into the root causes! 💡 Supporting digestion, hydration, thyroid health and gut health are key to achieving regular, healthy bowel movements. Consistent constipation is your body’s way of asking for support—so don’t ignore it!

... Read moreHey everyone! So, reading about the root causes of constipation really resonated with me. I used to think it was just about chugging more water or eating an apple, but oh boy, was I wrong! It's like a puzzle, and when you start putting the pieces together, things really click. One thing that surprised me was how much dehydration plays a role, even beyond just “not drinking enough.” It's not just about water intake, but also about electrolytes. I learned that if you're drinking a lot of coffee, for example, it can actually contribute to dehydration and even deplete magnesium, which is a big player in smooth digestion. I started adding a pinch of sea salt or an electrolyte powder to my water, and it made a noticeable difference! It's not just about volume, but quality hydration. And let's talk fiber. The article touched on it, but honestly, I found out that too much of the wrong kind of fiber can sometimes make things worse, especially if your gut isn't quite ready for it, or if you also have low stomach acid. I used to load up on bran, thinking it was the answer, but it often left me feeling more bloated. Now, I focus on a variety of fibers from fruits and veggies, and I listen to my body. If you're seeing those separate hard lumps in your stool, it often points to a need for better hydration AND the right type of fiber, not just more of it. Another game-changer for me was understanding low stomach acid. It's not something you hear about often, but if your food isn't properly broken down, it can really slow things down in your gut. I noticed a huge improvement by incorporating apple cider vinegar before meals – it supports digestion and helps break down food more efficiently. It's a simple trick, but it made a world of difference for my bloating and regularity. And what about pain? If you're asking, “what to do when you're constipated and it hurts,” you're not alone. I've been there. Sometimes, the pain can be sharp, especially in the lower abdomen or even radiating to your back. It's your body screaming for help! Beyond addressing the root causes, gentle movement can sometimes offer relief. Even a brisk walk or some light yoga can get things moving. I even tried a specific sleeping position – on my left side with knees drawn up – and found it somewhat helpful for morning relief. Finally, high stress is a silent culprit. Our gut and brain are so connected! When I'm super stressed, my digestion just grinds to a halt. Incorporating mindfulness, deep breathing exercises, or even just taking 10 minutes for myself each day has been crucial. It’s all connected – from what we eat, how we hydrate, to how we manage our stress. Digging deeper into these issues, like magnesium deficiency (which I now supplement, thanks to a doctor's recommendation), hypothyroid concerns, or even exploring if SIBO or parasites could be at play, can truly transform your gut health journey. It’s about listening to your body’s signals and finding your unique path to regularity!
