I don’t like Your taste In horror

✨ I don’t care ✨

1 week agoEdited to

... Read moreHorror is such a personal and subjective genre, and I’ve always found it fascinating how people’s tastes can be so different. Personally, I tend to lean towards certain types of horror that emphasize atmosphere and deep psychological tension rather than just jump scares or gore. For instance, novels like those by Dathan Auerbach and Riley Sager, with their slow-building dread and well-crafted stories, really resonate with me. I’ve noticed that some popular horror stories, like "The Blair Witch Project" or "Penpal," connect with audiences because of their unique styles—found footage and epistolary storytelling, respectively. While these styles can be thrilling, they don’t always appeal to me, and that’s okay. Taste in horror often depends on what scares or interests you on a deeper level, whether it’s ghosts, haunted houses, cryptic incidents, or psychological undertones. Engaging with different horror works, from Josh Malerman’s suspenseful narratives to W.H. Chizmar’s unsettling tales, has broadened my understanding of the genre’s variety. Sometimes, I find comfort in horror that challenges me intellectually or emotionally, not just something that shocks me briefly. This diversity in horror appeals to different emotions and fears, making discussions about personal tastes quite interesting. Sharing these differences can enhance our appreciation of the genre much more than focusing on which style is 'better' or 'worse.' Ultimately, embracing varied tastes can make the horror community richer and more inclusive.
