iPhone or Surprise? (Trip to Hokkaido, Japan)
#hosted This winter we decided to visit RISONARE Tomamu in Hokkaido and it was a truly unforgettable experience.
Here is why this place is the new standard for us:
1. The Room: Every room is a suite! They are 100 square meters so we had plenty of space to breathe. We even had a private sauna and giant jet bath right in the room. It was the best way to reset after a freezing day outside!
2. No Friction: It is true ski in ski out. We did not bring any gear. We rented everything on site. We walked out the door and were on the mountain! The coaches were amazing too. Our kids learned to snowboard in just one day!
3. The Food: There are over 20 restaurants! We got all you can eat Wagyu, snow crab legs and fresh Sashimi! We got to try some super popular local Hokkaido restaurants like Soup Curry Garaku. And eveywhere was super kid friendly.
4. The Magic: The kids were obsessed! We explored an Ice Village, had epic snowball fights in the fresh powder and ate frozen ramen. We took a gondola up to 1000 meters to walk on the Cloud Walk bridge. Appa even rode the 4km Snow Kart course! We ended the trip catching our first fish ice fishing.
Big thank you to RISONARE Tomamu for having us. This was a trip we will never forget!

Having experienced winter vacations in various ski resorts, I can say that RISONARE Tomamu stands out remarkably, especially for families. The sheer size of the suites—around 100 square meters—provided ample room for relaxation after days packed with outdoor adventures. What made the stay even more special was the private sauna and the giant jet bath within the room, perfect for warming up and unwinding after exploring the snowy landscape. What truly impressed us was the seamless ski-in ski-out setup. Not having to bring or carry bulky gear was a major relief, and the convenience of renting everything on site, including snowboards and skis, made the experience stress-free. The onsite coaches were fantastic, turning our kids into confident snowboarders within a day, which made the whole family proud and incredibly happy. As food lovers, we enjoyed sampling the diverse culinary options available. The presence of over 20 restaurants ensured everyone’s preferences were met—from indulgent all-you-can-eat Wagyu to fresh snow crab legs and sashimi that highlighted Hokkaido’s renowned seafood. We also loved visiting local favorites like Soup Curry Garaku, where the flavors offered a genuine taste of Hokkaido’s culture. Importantly, each dining place was very accommodating to kids, which is a huge advantage when traveling with little ones. The magical winter experiences for the children added an unforgettable dimension to our trip. The Ice Village was enchanting, snowball fights left us laughing and invigorated, and even trying frozen ramen was a quirky but delightful challenge. Taking the gondola up to 1000 meters and walking on the Cloud Walk bridge provided breathtaking views and memorable family moments. An especially exciting highlight was ice fishing, where we caught our first fish—an authentic and rewarding local experience that brought us closer to nature. Overall, the combination of luxurious accommodations, frictionless skiing access, outstanding food, and magical kid-friendly activities makes RISONARE Tomamu a new benchmark for winter family vacations. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking a memorable, hassle-free, and fun-filled snowy escape.
